As I entered my last year of college, reality struck me across my head and I understood this chapter of my life was coming to an end. My dance card was empty, but my options were limitless. I could always move back home and work in my family’s business, a jewelry store in New York City. I spent most of my life there working during the busy seasons, when needed. My heart was not pulling me in that direction. I visited Dr. Greene, our family optometrist located in the back of a jewelry store down the block from my parent’s store. I was intrigued with the instruments that he used to examine his patient’s eyes. I was impressed with his passion as he explained his profession’s job description: enhance and protect the gift of sight so patients could experience the beauty of the world around them. At that moment, my future came into clear focus.
