Live Life Without Corrective Lenses
The Filutowski Eye Institute, formerly the Filutowski Cataract & LASIK Institute, is one of the first in the country to offer SMILE (SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction) – the newest minimally-invasive procedure to correct myopia (nearsightedness).
How is SMILE Different than LASIK?
During LASIK, a small flap is made on the surface of your eye, the laser then reshapes your cornea – correcting your refractive error – and the flap is lowered so it can heal. With SMILE, no flap is made. Instead, the laser makes a tiny opening on the surface of your eye. This advanced laser also creates a lens-shaped disc of tissue inside your cornea that is removed through the small incision.
Benefits of SMILE
SMILE is a gentle, bladeless, and quick procedure. Along with the benefits of clear vision, SMILE provides the following benefits:
- Minimally invasive procedure that causes little to no pain for a lifetime of clear vision
- Most patients are able to return to their everyday routine the day following SMILE with clear, corrected vision
- You may experience less discomfort and dry eye with SMILE than with other types of vision correction procedures
- No more hassles with glasses or contact lenses
Risks of SMILE Procedure
Although the vast majority of our patients experience a significant improvement in their
vision, neither your surgeon, nor your optometrist, not the center nor its staff, can
promise or guarantee that the procedure will be 100% effective or make your vision
better than it was before the procedure.
