Why I Became an Eye Doctor
In medical school, I enjoyed all the specialties, but it seemed to me that vision was an understated gift. Ophthalmology offered the opportunity to perform challenging surgeries and see patients of all ages in different settings. Patients with retinal problems particularly appealed to me because of the long-term relationships with their doctors, the need to understand their medical problems, and social circumstances.
