How Does it Work?

There are two types of vision correction surgeries: Laser Vision Correction and Lens Implant procedures. We offer five types of procedures to our patients.

Laser Vision Correction reshapes cornea (the front of your eye) to fix your prescription. SMILE, LASIK, and PRK are types of laser vision correction.

Lens Implant Procedures use an implantable lens to change how your eye focuses light. RLE and ICL are lens based procedures.

SMILE

LASER VISION CORRECTION

SMILE (SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction) is the newest form of laser vision correction. It is a bladeless and flapless procedure.

LASIK

LASER VISION CORRECTION

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis) is the most commonly-thought of laser vision correction procedure.

PRK

LASER VISION CORRECTION

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is the first generation of laser vision correction.

RLE

Implantable lens procedure

RLE involves removing your natural lens and replacing it with a specially designed lens. It is an ideal option for patients with reading glasses.

ICL

implantable lens procedure

The Visian ICL is an additive vision correction procedure – the lens works with your eyes to enhance and sharpen your vision.

FAQ

We have two surgeons who perform Laser Vision Correction surgery:

  • Konrad Filutowski, MD
  • Angela Dempsey, MD

A virtual consultation lasts around 30 minutes. You will meet with one of our counselors and review your surgical options. Your first in-person evaluation appointment lasts about 1.5-2 hours. You will have a dilated eye exam, see one of our physicians, and meet with your surgical counselor to finalize your surgical plan.

This depends on your specific situation, but we can generally schedule your  procedure within a few weeks to a month.

Generally, vision correction procedures are not covered by insurance. However, there are a few plans that will cover part or all of your procedure. The easiest way to find out if we accept your insurance or if your insurance covers your procedure is to call our office. One of our billing specialists can confirm your insurance with you.
