Know How Healthy Your Eyes Are

Our eye evaluations uncover eye problems that you may not realize are affecting your vision and everyday life.

Retinal Evaluations

The retina detects light and sends signals to your brain, so you can see the world around you. Diabetic Retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal tears and detachments are some of the more common retinal problems. Through a complete dilated exam and using advanced 3D technology, we evaluate your retina and detect problems that are otherwise too small to observe without this technology.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration is the most common cause of vision loss in the United States in patients over the age of 50. It causes patients to progressively lose their central vision and can eventually lead to severe vision loss. During a dilated exam, our doctors diagnose macular degeneration based on the appearance of the “macula” in the back of your eye. Our advanced OCT scanners allow for unprecedented 3D views of the delicate macula.

There are two types of macular degeneration: dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration is much more common and is treated by making certain lifestyle changes and taking vitamins. Wet macular degeneration is less common, but can cause significant vision loss, if not detected and treated appropriately.

Dry Eyes

Even in humid Florida, dry eyes are a very common problem. Dry eyes are caused by inadequate tear production or poor tear quality, resulting in tears evaporating too quickly. Simple in-office testing can determine the cause of your dry eyes and an appropriate treatment to fix this problem.

SLT for Glaucoma

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) reduces eye pressure for glaucoma patients, and may eliminate or reduce the need for eye drops. SLT improves the outflow of fluid from the eye by stimulating the body’s natural mechanisms to remove fluid. Completed in a couple of minutes, this procedure is comfortable for the patient and requires zero recovery time. SLT is covered by most insurance plans and reimbursed by Medicare.

Eyelid Lesion Removal

During this procedure, a variety of bumps and growths on a patient’s eyelids are removed. This procedure usually requires no stitches.

Punctal Plug Insertion

This procedure alleviates dry eyes by inserting a plug into the eye’s tear drainage system. These plugs help keep more tears on the surface of the eye, which is where the most moisture is needed. The plugs can be removed at a later time, if the patient wishes.

Punctal Probing and Irrigation

Watery eyes and excessive tearing may be resolved by opening partially blocked tear ducts. A simple and comfortable procedure diagnoses and treats watery eyes by flushing a small amount of fluid through the tear drainage system.

Chalazion Excision

A chalazion, or sty, is a common problem with an eyelid. When one of the tiny glands in the eyelid is clogged, the gland becomes swollen, red, inflamed, and painful. Warm compresses and medication may help to resolve the sty. If the sty does not respond to conservative treatment, then it can be drained quickly and safely with a minor surgical procedure.

YAG Laser

After cataract or RLE surgery, 30% of patients develop a cloudy scar tissue behind their lens implant that can interfere with clear vision. A YAG laser easily clears away the scar tissue to quickly restore clear vision.

A pterygium is a growth of the conjunctiva (the clear skin that covers the white of the eye) onto the cornea. It can be unsightly and may cause redness, irritation and/or blurry vision. A pterygium can be removed in the operating room quickly, safely, and without stitches.
